AUGUST 16--A new flat-panel digital retrofit imaging system for radiographic rooms, manufactured by InfiMed Inc. (Liverpool, NY; www.infimed.com), offers digital capture, storage, and transfer of general radiographic images, a complete connectivity solution for existing or future PACS implementation. Called StingRay DR, the system includes a universal bucky replacement and uses the Trixell Pixium 4600 flat-panel detector with a custom-designed, high-speed imaging system. This results in full-resolution image acquisition in less then 10 seconds.

According to the company, a successful clinical trial took place in Fall 2000 at the Kirklin Clinic at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center, the third busiest US outpatient center. The retrofit, says InfiMed, allows two radiographic rooms to be upgraded for what it could cost to replace one with a new system. "With the StingRay DR, we are providing the final piece to the digital puzzle," said Brian Fleming, president of InfiMed. "The StingRay DR has direct digital DICOM connectivity, increases patient throughput, provides higher-quality images for more accurate diagnosis, and is a retrofit solution that is cost-efficient."
