MARCH 21--Integrated BioSciences (IBS; Lewisberry, PA, USA; www.ibiosci.com), an FDA registered, ISO 13485:2003 and ISO 9001:2000 certified medical-device contract manufacturer, has selected Adept Technology (Livermore, CA, USA), a provider of intelligent vision-guided robotics and global robotics services, as its exclusive robot supplier. IBS has purchased 16 Adept Cobra i600 SCARA robots, which will be used to build an automation line for high-speed assembly of a class II medical device for an international customer.
The Cobra i600 robot was selected for its flexibility, speed, precision, intelligence, and cleanliness and provides IBS with a robotics platform capable of equipment recapitalization, higher throughput, tighter assembly tolerances, and more complete product traceability than alternative robotic solutions. The innovative controller-in-base design of the Cobra i600 reduces controller cabinet floor space requirements, streamlined cell communications, and simplified system design and operation.
IBS has an in-house automation design and build group, as well as an engineering staff with experience in the use of automation and systems integration. By integrating standard robotic automation cells and contract medical-device production, IBS can offer a more seamless solution for medical-device manufacturing, providing the lower costs of offshore production with the proximity, regulatory compliance, and intellectual-property protection of domestic manufacturing.
