JANUARY 9--The US Display Consortium (USDC; San Jose, CA), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flat-panel-display (FPD) industry infrastructure, has unveiled the formal agenda for its second annual Flexible Microelectronics and Display Workshop & Conference, to be held February 3--4, 2003, in Phoenix, AZ. The summit, which brings together leading industry, government, R&D, and academic experts in one forum, will highlight the latest advancements and hurdles facing the evolution of flexible display and microelectronics technology.

This year's agenda includes a strategic overview of both technology and market requirements, materials and manufacturing initiatives (including prospects for a roll-to-roll manufacturing paradigm), microelectronic backplanes and display technologies, as well as applications associated with the production of flexible devices.

The underlying purpose of this annual summit is to explore the current status of the technology, markets, and applications for flexible displays; educate potential participants in supply-chain development program needs and goals; and identify future investment opportunities. New to this year's format are speakers from the printing, photovoltaic, and PCB industries, who will present on the applications of flexible substrates and web-based processing within their respective industries to help the FPD industry learn from their experiences, both positive and negative.

Cosponsors of the workshop include the US Army Research Laboratory, Cambridge Display Technology, DuPont Displays, Natick Soldier Center, Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, and Universal Display Corporation.
