JUNE 11--Pepperidge Farm Inc. (Norwalk, CT) received the 2001 Robots & Vision User Recognition Award at the International Robots & Vision Show (Chicago, IL) for its use of these technologies in cookie packaging. "In addition to boosting production capacity, improving quality, and lowering scrap losses, the new system automates a highly repetitive task," said Donald A. Vincent, executive vice president of the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), one of the trade groups sponsoring the award

Said David Watson, director--engineering at Pepperidge Farm, "We had a team of engineers who worked with our key suppliers, SIG Pack Systems, ABB Flexible Automation, and Adept Technology, to make sure that this system helped accomplish both short-term and long-term goals. The results have exceeded our expectations."

The Robots & Vision User Recognition Award, sponsored by the RIA and the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), is presented every two years in conjunction with the International Robots & Vision Show. Past award winners include Honeywell and Pioneer Hi-bred International.
