Active Silicon Ltd. acquired by Solid State plc
Imaging and embedded vision system component designer, manufacturer, and distributor Active Silicon announced today its acquisition by electronics group Solid State, a supplier of electronics with a focus on industrial and military markets for ruggedized and durable components, assemblies, and manufacturer units for use in harsh environments.
Active Silicon will operate as an independent entity within Solid State’s manufacturing division, Steatite. The acquisition is intended to bolster Solid State’s operations within the machine and computer vision industries and increase Active Silicon’s ability to develop embedded computing and artificial intelligence technologies, including its Harrier range of cameras.
“This acquisition ensures that we’ll be able to continue to invest in the research and development needed to keep [our customers’] vision systems evolving and adding value to their applications,” said Colin Pearce, CEO of Active Silicon. The initial payment of £6.3M is being settled out of Solid State’s existing cash resources and banking facilities.
