Under a contract worth $737,000, Irvine Sensors (Costa Mesa, CA) will build a 50-GOP image processor for the Wright Patterson AFB (Dayton, OH). The add-in board will be used for image enhancement and will be delivered to the US Air Force. Capable of processing 1024 ¥ 1024 images in real time, the processor will use a custom version of Irvine`s three-dimensional artificial neural-network processor that has a parallel architecture. According to John Carson, senior vice president of Irvine Sensors, the company will use this technology to develop a general-purpose image-processing system for desktop video-processing applications.

The agreement is an 18-month contract under the Small Business Innovation Research program. ©
