A short course in IEEE-1394 was given by Jerry Berger, director of Visual Imaging Products at Sony Electronics Inc. (Park Ridge, NJ). He pointed out how this inexpensive, high-speed, serial bus standard, commonly called "FireWire," is overcoming the performance limitations of conventional computer and video interfaces such as USB and SCSI, and SDTI and RS-422, respectively.
