    LCDs offer multiple configurations A family of gray-tone, monochrome-character liquid-crystal displays offer blue-gray letters and numbers on a light-gray background. Nine models are available with and without LED backlights. The displays come in several screen configurations: 1 line by 16 characters; 2 lines by 16, 20, 24, and 40 characters; and 4 lines by 16, 20, and 40 characters.     LCDs offer multiple configurations A family of gray-tone, monochrome-character liquid-crystal displays offer blue-gray letters and numbers on a light-gray background. Nine models are available with and without LED backlights. The displays come in several screen configurations: 1 line by 16 characters; 2 lines by 16, 20, 24, and 40 characters; and 4 lines by 16, 20, and 40 characters. Each character is formed with a 5 (horizontal) by 8 (vertical, including cursor) pixel matrix. Power consumption is 5 V at 5 to 125 mA (typical). All displays use a Hitachi HD44780 controller or equivalent. Pricing ranges from $9.34 to $50.58 in 2500 quantities.
