JANUARY 14--AWAIBA Lda (www.awaiba.com), a design house for CMOS image sensors, based in Funchal, Madeira, has won the "Idea five" award for Portuguese most innovative young company. AWAIBA specializes in the development of high-speed and high-dynamic-range area- and linescan image sensors for machine-vision applications, such as quality control, high-speed video analysis, and automotive. The "Idea five" award is awarded annually by the Portuguese agency for Innovation (www.adi.pt) for the most innovative young companies on a national basis. Key criteria for the award are innovative technologies, market relevance, and innovative business concepts.
The award shows an increasing consciousness for the small but fast-growing machine-vision industry in Portugal. It can be seen as an award for the entire Portuguese machine-vision industry.
