NOVEMBER 21--Leutron Vision (Stuttgart, Germany; www.leutron.com) has announced a new product line, PicSight, which offers a new approach to the way cameras are designed and purchased. OEMs create their own industrial cameras meeting their needs. First, they pick image characteristics (resolution, sensitivity, and so forth) from its selection of standard sensor modules based on CCD or CMOS sensors. Then, they select the preferred way of transferring the images (GigE, Camera Link) from its standard interface modules or opt for in-camera processing with a smart processing module. Leutron Vision assembles and tests all PicSight products before shipping them so OEMs can integrate them immediately into their systems.

The standard sensor modules integrate the image sensor with its necessary electronics. They have been designed to maximize image quality and provide digitalized image data to a standard interface module or a smart processing module. They are based on CMOS or CCD technology with resolution from VGA to several megapixels, with different maximum frame rate, sensor size, and so forth. Large-volume OEMs can also have a dedicated module specific to their unique requirements.

The standard interface modules transfer the digital image data from a standard sensor module onto another medium such as Gigabit Ethernet, USB2, Camera Link, or analog. They are designed to offer flexibility and ease of use. Large-volume OEMs can also have a dedicated module specific to their unique requirements.

The smart processing modules are open modules offering on-board processing from the digital image data of a Standard Sensor Module. Smart Processing Modules are equipped with processor, memory, Gigabit Ethernet, I/Os, VGA output, and so forth. They make autonomous processing units or preprocessing units. Large-volume OEMs can also have a dedicated module specific to their unique requirements.

PicSight uses Leutron Vision's common software Development Kit (LVSDS). Any PicSight can thus be controlled through .Net, VB, C/C++ for Windows, Linux, or VxWorks. Find additional information about PicSight at: www.PicSight.com.
