New chairman named for VDMA's Machine Vision Group
JULY 20--Dr Dietmar Ley has been elected as president of the VDMA's Machine Vision (MV) Group (Frankfurt am Main, Germany; www.vdma.org). He replaces Volker Pape of Viscom AG (Hannover, Germany; www.viscom.de), who has resigned to accept another office within the VDMA.
Dr Ley has been working in the field of vision technology for many years. Following a degree in electrical engineering from Siegen University, where he specialized in telecommunications, he held various positions in the research and development departments at Philips GmbH, Siemens AG, and Alcatel AG.
During February 2000, he succeeded Norbert Basler as chief executive officer of Basler AG (Ahrensburg, Germany; www.baslerweb.com). In 2003, he joined the management board of the VDMA's Machine Vision Group. Since 2004 he has also been a board member of the Automated Imaging Association (Ann Arbor, MI, USA; www.machinevisiononline.org).
