APRIL 15--Phrontier Technologies (San Jose, CA;www.phrontier-tech.com) has entered the Camera Link extender market with a range of products that allow Camera Link-compatible products such as cameras and frame grabbers to be located as far apart as 50 km. The company's PHOX is an optical extension system that uses proprietary fiberoptics technologies. Each PHOX system consists of a pair of Camera Link extenders, the PHOX-CM and PHOX-FG. The PHOX-CM connects to a Camera Link camera and converts electrical signals to optical signals. The PHOX-FG connects to a Camera Link frame grabber and converts the optical signals back to electrical signals. Optical signals are transmitted over a standard LC fiber cable between PHOX-CM and PHOX-FG.

The system supports Camera Link base configurations, features a 2-Gbit/s transport bandwidth up to 66 MHz, four optoisolated GPIO channels (two inputs, two outputs) for external trigger and control, and a full duplex RS232 for remote instrument control.
