FEBRUARY 7--JAI PULNiX Inc., a manufacturer of high-quality, industrial-grade cameras for the machine vision, security, manufacturing, military, aerospace, medical, and scientific markets, has introduced the CV-A50, an RS-170 camera with RS-232C remote setup, designed for use in high-volume OEM and automated imaging applications. The camera features a Sony ICX419ALL imager with 752 x 582- pixel resolution. Its ASIC design allows setup through RS-232C command protocol.

The camera measures 29 x 44 x 66 mm with either a 1/2-in. (CV-A50) or 1/3-in. (CV-A60) monochrome CCD sensor. Because the CV-A50 can only be configured by means of a remote computer, the camera has no need for rear-panel DIP switches. This elimination increases reliability to as much as 100,000 hours mean time between failure, as well as making internal camera access for configuration unnecessary. In an OEM or system integrator environment, the CV-A50 can be configured exactly the same, greatly reducing the risk of operator errors. Setup changes can be made in real time from within an application. The ability to remotely modify settings makes the CV-A50 ideal for embedded applications.

Other performance advantages include lower power consumption (1.5 W), lighter weight (150 g) for improved robotic arm integration and movement, and reduced volume size (84 cm3). Typical applications for the CV-A50 include semiconductor manufacture, electronics assembly and inspection, automotive and consumer products pre-assembly parts inspection, surface quality/texture inspection, laser eye surgery, and monitoring pharmaceutical product packaging.
