OCTOBER 3--The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of the US Department of Transportation has ordered 25 new explosives-detection systems (EDSs) from InVision Technologies Inc. (Newark, CA; www.invision-tech.com) and funded the production of systems from all parts kits previously purchased, including CTX 5500 DS and CTX 9000 DSi model EDS. The most recent order for new systems and conversion of parts kits to complete systems is valued at approximately $87.7 million. To date this year, the TSA has ordered systems and components from InVision valued at approximately $512.9 million. These orders bring to 625 the number of systems the TSA has ordered from InVision since March 2002.

"Our initial orders from the TSA provided hundreds of stand-alone systems to be used in airport lobbies in the first phase of EDS deployment nationwide. More recently, the TSA began to purchase our in-line CTX 9000 DSi EDS for integrated baggage-handling systems," said Sergio Magistri, InVision's president and chief executive officer.
