Dalsa reports major power semiconductor order
JULY 25--The Semiconductor Division of Dalsa Corp. (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; www.dalsa.com) has received a major order for power semiconductor-wafer foundry services. The order was placed by one of the leading global manufacturers of power semiconductor integrated circuits. The business is valued at $3 million for the balance of this calendar year.
"The power semiconductor sector has been leading the upturn of the broader semiconductor chip industry. Strengthened bookings for power components has come about for a few reasons. The first is that inventory draw-down in this sector has been complete for some time. The second reason for a healthy outlook for power ICs is the diversity of applications they service, with a concentration in consumer-based uses rather than as much dependence on weaker sectors such as corporate IT or telecom equipment. The resiliency of consumer spending through the downturn has kept demand for power semiconductors strong, in contrast to some other semiconductor sectors," commented Savvas Chamberlain, CEO of Dalsa Corporation.
