NOVEMBER 24--Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd. (Montreal, Canada; www.matrox.com), a manufacturer of professional graphics, digital video editing, and scientific and industrial imaging products, announced that cofounder and president Lorne Trottier has been awarded Le Prix Lionel-Boulet. Awarded to researchers who have distinguished themselves through their inventions, scientific and technological innovations, leadership in scientific development, and contribution to Québec's economic growth, this award is dedicated to the memory of Lionel Boulet (1919-1996), an engineer and founder of ERIQ, the Electricity Research Institute of Québec. It honors leading figures who have distinguished themselves through their industrial research-and-development activities.
In 1976, Trottier and partner Branko Matic cofounded Matrox Electronic Systems. Over the past 27 years, Trottier and Matic have built the Matrox group into a multimillion-dollar family of companies with operations in the computer-graphics, imaging, and video industries. Throughout the company's growth, Trottier has assumed many different roles as both a manager and a technical innovator.
Matrox Imaging has developed high-performance imaging hardware and custom ASICs that accelerate image-processing algorithms; earlier this year, Matrox Imaging celebrated the tenth anniversary of its flagship product, the Matrox Imaging Library software-development toolkit.
