DECEMBER 19--Raytheon Company's Raytheon Infrared (Dallas, TX; www.raytheoninfrared.com) has manufactured and sold 1000 units from its Thermal-Eye X100 thermal-imaging camera product family. The family, which includes the Thermal-Eye X100 and the Thermal-Eye X100xp, features extremely small, rugged, and light hand-held thermal-imaging cameras.

The palm-sized cameras, which were used by troops of the 101st Airborne Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom, give users the ability to look through darkness and other obstructions to "See the Unseen." Measuring only 4 in. wide by 5 in. inches long, weighing 13 oz, and powered by two AA batteries, the Thermal-Eye X100 products are now used by law-enforcement and public-safety officers to serve and protect their communities. The products assist officers in searching for lost children, conducting rescue operations, perimeter surveillance, marine or ground surveillance, fugitive searches, disturbed surface investigations, pollutant searches and vehicle pursuits.

"Delivering our 1000th Thermal-Eye X100 unit is a landmark for the product line, but more importantly, it's a landmark for safety," said Raytheon Infrared president Chris Bade. "One of our chief goals is to increase the safety of law-enforcement officers, public-safety personnel, and the people they protect, and the Thermal-Eye X100 line has truly helped us achieve that goal." The cameras have no light source that might tip-off criminals to the location of an officer doing surveillance. With the rugged Thermal-Eye X100 series, officers stay hidden, and criminals don't.
