FEINFOCUS to partner with BIR for 3-D x-ray inspection and analysis

OCTOBER 21--FEINFOCUS (Stamford, CT; www.feinfocus.com) will partner with Bio-Imaging Research Inc. (BIR), a manufacturer of CT/DR systems.

OCTOBER 21--FEINFOCUS (Stamford, CT; www.feinfocus.com) will partner with Bio-Imaging Research Inc. (BIR), a manufacturer of CT/DR systems. BIR will supply FEINFOCUS with advanced computed-tomography imaging systems (ACTISs) for volume CT scanning on the FEINFOCUS µCT FOX x-ray inspection system.

The µCT FOX is an industrial x-ray inspection system that includes functional 2- and 3-D modalities in one system. Combining the flexibility, functionality, and ergonomics of a standard microfocus x-ray system with the ability to generate 3-D imagery, the µCT FOX visualizes the most inner components and precise structural modeling of a device. Cracks, voids, delamination, and other crucial anomalies can now be depicted in their actual 3-D position, providing valuable insight into the design and manufacturing processes of these devices. This ability makes the new µCT FOX system ideally suited for sensor, MEMS/MOEMS, medical device, and complex electromechanical component inspection applications.

BIR Inc., a privately held corporation, is headquartered in Lincolnshire, IL (www.bio-imaging.com). The Industrial Systems Division designs and manufactures a full line of ACTISs that are used for nondestructive testing and metrology applications. First article inspection, nondestructive internal geometry capture, reverse engineering, flaw detection, and accurate dimension measurement are standard system functions. ACTIS 3-D data sets can be imported into a wide variety of third-party modeling and analysis software applications. CT data are used for creating solid models, surface models, rapid prototyping, product variance maps, and casting porosity and wall thickness reports. The Industrial Systems Division has installed more than 90 industrial CT scanners worldwide.
