JULY 3--The 1394 Trade Association (Grapevine, TX; www.1394ta.org) and Apple Computer completed a successful compliance workshop event during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco last week, under a 1394 Compliance Program. A total of 41 devices from a variety of companies went through the testing process, which was underwritten by Apple Computer and administered by Quantum Parametrics LLC. The WWDC workshop reached a large number of suppliers of hard drives, CD/DVD drives, scanners, repeaters, PCI cards, and other products, according to Richard Mourn, president of Quantum Parametrics. "Many of the 15 companies who participated in this Compliance and Interoperability Workshop will obtain the Trade Association's FireWire certification logo almost immediately," Mourn said.

Apple Computer supported the workshop to continue encouraging FireWire developers to obtain the certification from the 1394 Trade Association. This includes the compliance logo license, giving developers the right to carry the FireWire Compliant logo on their products. The purpose is to spread and standardize the FireWire technology, and to promote interoperability among FireWire products.

The next 1394/FireWire Compliance and Interoperability workshop event is scheduled for August in Redmond, WA.
