JULY 1--The 1394 Trade Association (Grapevine, TX;www.1394ta.org) has added the i.LINK logo to its 1394 Compliance Branding program in a no-fee license agreement between the Trade Association and Sony Corp. Under the terms of the agreement, the 1394 Trade Association can sublicense the i.LINK logo for use on products, packaging, and promotion of the IEEE 1394 standard.

IEEE 1394 has become the established worldwide industry standard for both consumers and professionals. Analysts from leading organizations expect that the 1394 interface will be incorporated on more than 64 million personal computers and approximately 100 million digital devices by the end of 2003.

"Adding i.LINK creates another way for consumers to identify products built with the IEEE 1394 audio-video standard," said James Snider, executive director of the 1394 Trade Association. "We are pleased to embrace i.LINK as a recognized brand name for 1394-enabled products."

According to Scott Smyers, vice president of the Network & Systems Architecture division of Sony Electronics, "As part of the 1394 Trade Association's compliance program, we are committed to promoting the i.LINK brand name for member companies that prefer to use the i.LINK logo."

In May 2002, the 1394 Trade Association adopted the FireWire logo as a brand identity for the IEEE 1394 connection standard. With i.LINK joining FireWire in the Compliance Branding program, the 1394 Trade Association now has license to use all the recognized logos for IEEE 1394 worldwide.
