JULY 17--Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (RVSI; Nashua, NH; www.rvsi.com) reports that its Acuity CiMatrix Division's Visionscape machine-vision product line has been selected by a major consumer personal-care-products company for use in a worldwide automation program to retrofit existing manufacturing lines. The 18-month program has a prospective value of $1.2 million, and RVSI has received orders from the customer's systems integrator for an initial $150,000 of products for shipment in the current quarter. RVSI's machine-vision products will be used to extend the life of the customer's existing manufacturing equipment, while increasing throughput of existing product lines.
Says Ray England, vice president--worldwide sales and marketing for Acuity CiMatrix, "The customer outlined his need to increase manufacturing throughput by 25% using existing equipment, while bringing on-line a newer, more technologically sophisticated product line. The customer determined that a PC-based, embedded machine-vision inspection system was the right choice to enable the manufacturing process to hit the new production targets. The customer considered products from several machine-vision vendors before settling on our Visionscape 4000 family as the machine-vision system that would deliver the reliability and uptime required in a high-volume manufacturing environment."
