JULY 10--The Semiconductor Equipment Group of Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (Nashua, NH; www.rvsi.com) has received orders totaling $1.5 million for its LS-7700 lead-scanning systems. The orders are from several of the semiconductor industry's largest contract test, assembly, and packaging organizations. Depending upon features, lead scanners are priced between $300,000 and $450,000 per system.

Lead scanners are used to inspect assembled integrated circuits prior to shipment to customers. Lead scanners check for package uniformity and integrity and to ensure that leads and ball-grid arrays are properly aligned. This check is typically the final one done on a semiconductor package.

Said Michael Gray, vice president--sales for the semiconductor equipment group, "These orders are additional evidence of the long-awaited upturn in the industry. We are now seeing significant activity at all of the major subcontract houses. Part of the orders represent the fourth multisystem order we have received during the past three months."
