Cognex Corp. expands into China

JULY 10--Cognex Corporation (Natick, MA; www.cognex.com), supplier of machine-vision systems, has opened an office in Shanghai, China. The new office will expand Cognex's presence in Asia, a region that the company has served for many years from offices in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and Singapore.

"China is rapidly becoming a world leader in manufacturing, and, although labor costs there are still low, the trend is moving quickly to automated manufacturing," said Robert J. Shillman, chairman and CEO of Cognex. "As a result of that, the need for machine vision is increasing at a rapid rate. Many of our customers have already opened manufacturing operations in China. Our Shanghai office will provide Cognex with a local base for supporting those customers and for pursuing a wide range of new business opportunities, as well."
