JULY 3--Automation Engineering Inc. (Aei; Wilmington, MA; www.aeiboston.com), a supplier of machine-vision and motion-control technology for flexible automation, expects to ship version 6.0 of its FlexAuto software, which integrates machine vision, motion control, and operator interface functions, on July 15, 2003, more than two months early. Justin Roe, chief operating officer at Aei, says, "New features include expanded support for both the Adept Hexsight and the Cognex PatMax geometric pattern teach and find technologies, enhanced image-acquisition control functionality for both analog and digital image-capture boards and cameras, added support for Galil and Acroloop motion-control hardware, and extensions to the ability for FlexAuto applications to directly call custom and third party Windows software libraries from within the FlexAuto process control environment."

"Version 6.0 will mark more than eight years of on-going development to create an open-architecture integrated development environment for PC-based machine vision, motion control, and graphical user interface for machine control," adds Andre By, chief technology officer at AEi. "Since 1994, FlexAuto has been deployed throughout North America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim to control a wide variety of automation equipment across many industries, especially for fast-changing industries such as medical devices/life sciences, aerospace, electronics, semiconductor, and photonics/fiberoptics."
