JULY 29--SICK (Minneapolis, MN; www.sick.com), a provider of factory and process-automation platforms, and VITRONIC (Wiesbaden, Germany; www.vitronic.com), a machine-vision company, have formed a joint partnership for the North American market. VITRONIC's vision-system platforms will be combined with technology from SICK Auto Ident (Canton, MA), which was established in 2002 as a result of the acquisitions of LazerData and RVSI-Material Handling Division.

The new partnership will allow SICK to jointly market VITRONIC's vision solution to North American customers utilizing its sales, engineering, and service organization. "Primarily in the parcel, postal and retail distribution industry, customers are finding new ways to streamline their businesses using data collection. Vision systems are critical for many applications and will be added to our portfolio," notes Alberto Bertomeu, president of SICK North America.

Mike Schindler, vice president of VITRONIC Ltd. (Louisville, KY), says, "The partnership with SICK will provide us with a tremendous amount of infrastructure to support current and new customers in North America."

"VITRONIC designs and supplies customized machine-vision solutions to meet customers' requirements worldwide. We hold an installed base of some 1000 systems, ranging from machine vision in factory automation to barcode reading and OCR. We are excited to expand our market share in North America and to provide our expertise to SICK's North American customers," says Stein, founder and president of VITRONIC GmbH and Ltd.
