APRIL 8--Moritex Europe Ltd. (Cambridge, UK: www.moritex.com) has designed a new line of megapixel lenses that provide quality resolution for precision inspection and imaging applications.

APRIL 8--Traditional micromachine lenses for alignment applications are primarily designed for such operational functions as small size, long working distance, and depth of field. In contrast, Moritex Europe Ltd. (Cambridge, UK: www.moritex.com) has designed a new line of megapixel lenses that provide quality resolution for precision inspection and imaging applications.

The numerical aperture of megapixel lenses is large and aberration is minimal. Optimum performance is found when used with 1.3-Mpixel CCDs. The lenses deliver 200% improvement in brightness over traditional micromachine lenses to achieve image contrast under poor lighting conditions such as when using a high-speed shutter. Since depth of field is small, the lenses are well suited for surface observation applications.

All lenses come with a uniform coaxial illumination system that is optimized for high-reflectance objects such as semiconductor wafers and glass substrates. They are available in a choice of five standard fixed magnification telecentric designs.
