FEBRUARY 5--Peritek Corp. (Oakland, CA; www.peritek.com), a provider of mezzanine graphics boards for embedded systems, has begun distributing, at no cost, Peritool, a suite of software utilities designed to aid in the testing and debugging of PC hardware. PC functionality that can be analyzed with Peritool includes PCI (probe, map, access config registers), memory (read, write, and test) and I/O (read, write). Peritool will be offered free to hardware developers and can be downloaded from www.peritek.com/software_peritool.html.

Peritool runs under DOS (tested with v6.21) and can be run under Windows 98 in a command window. It is not compatible with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The software is distributed as executable code and comes with a source file example that shows the access mechanisms. The example program is complete and can be compiled.
