AUGUST 25, 2009--The ImagEM-1K (C9100-14) EMCCD camera offers high sensitivity, low noise, and high resolution for low-light-level imaging down to single-photon events. The cooled EMCCD camera is suited for a range of imaging applications in biology, materials science, physics, and others. It contains a back-thinned EMCCD chip enclosed in a hermetically sealed vacuum head. The EMCCD has 1024 x 1024 pixels with each pixel measuring 13 µm per side, making the camera appropriate for high-resolution imaging using high-NA lenses. The chip has high EM gain and quantum efficiency greater than 90% at peak wavelengths. The stable cooling of the EMCCD via forced air or water enables reliable and stable gain, minimal dark current, and long life for the chip.

PRESS RELEASE

ImagEM-1K cooled EM-CCD camera
The ImagEM-1K (C9100-14) electron multiplication (EM) CCD camera offers high sensitivity, low noise, and high resolution for low-light-level imaging down to single-photon events. This cooled EM-CCD camera with high resolution is well suited for a broad range of imaging applications in biology, materials science, physics, and other areas.

This high-performance camera contains a back-thinned EM-CCD chip enclosed in a hermetically sealed vacuum head. The EM-CCD has 1024 x 1024 pixels with each pixel measuring 13 µm per side, making the camera well suited to high-resolution imaging using high NA lenses. In addition, the EM-CCD has high EM gain and high quantum efficiency of over 90% at peak wavelengths, qualities which contribute to the camera's high sensitivity. The stable cooling of the EM-CCD via forced air or water means reliable and stable gain, minimal dark current, and long life for the EM-CCD.

To provide flexibility to users, the camera features two readout modes, an EM-CCD and a normal CCD readout. Each readout mode has multiple readout speeds to match frame rates to applications. Frame rates range from 9.5 frames/s to 231 frames/s. The camera also features low readout noise; the relative readout noise is 1 electron under EM-CCD readout. Other features of the camera include real-time image processing, various trigger features, and EM gain features such as gain protection, gain readjustment, and direct EM gain control.
