MARCH 30--Organizers of the Society for Information Display (SID; San Jose, CA) 2006 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition (SID 2006) expect this year's event to be the biggest and best in the organization's 44-year history. SID 2006 will take place June 4-9 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA.
SID 2006 officials are optimistic that overall attendance at SID 2006 will exceed 8000 people, which would be a record for the society's signature event. They cited several reasons for their confidence, including the show's location in the tech-savvy San Francisco Bay Area. But the most important factor they pointed to is the unprecedented number of oral and poster papers accepted for the Technical Symposium, the centerpiece of the six-day event that is the premier international gathering in the electronic information-display industry.
"This is the most impressive program I have seen in all the years that I have been attending SID," said Amal Ghosh of eMagin, who is the program chair for SID 2006. "The extraordinary number of papers is exceeded by their quality and represents the tremendous increase in interest in the display industry worldwide."
A record 540 oral and poster papers have been accepted for presentation at SID 2006. This led conference organizers to maintain the four-day format for the Symposium that was hugely successful when initiated at the 2005 Symposium in Boston.
