SCHOTT North America ends fiberoptic production at NY facility

SEPTEMBER 27, 2007--SCHOTT North America (Auburn, NY, USA) has announced the ending of production at its Auburn, NY, facility.

SEPTEMBER 27, 2007--SCHOTT North America (Auburn, NY, USA; us.schott.com) has announced the ending of production at its Auburn, NY, facility. The shutdown will occur gradually over the next year and will be finished by the end of 2008. The Auburn manufacturing operation employed 73 people. After the closure, customers will be served from SCHOTT's Southbridge, MA, USA, location. Manufacturing will be absorbed by SCHOTT's existing facilities at various locations around the world.

SCHOTT's Fiber Optics business in Auburn produces a variety of Fiber Optic and LED products for medical and industrial applications. SCHOTT acquired the facility in 1999 from Fostec.

Heinz Kaiser, vice president and general manager of SCHOTT's North American fiberoptics business, stated that the closure of the facility was due to industry pressures.
