May 27--Advanced illumination (Ai; Rochester, VT; advancedillumination.com) has appointed Joe Smith, formerly of Schott, to the position of director of sales. His responsibilities at Ai will include developing new sales avenues while strengthening and expanding existing marketing outlets.
Smith began his career in the lighting industry as an applications engineer for Schott-Fostec. Over the course of nine years he served in a variety of capacities for that company, most recently as regional sales manager. He brings an in-depth knowledge of the machine-vision industry, as well as a practical understanding of lighting techniques and application to his new position.
Smith has a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Vermont and is married with two children.
