Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP; Palo Alto, CA; www.hp.com) and Sound Vision Inc. (SV; Framingham, MA; www.soundvisioninc.com) have agreed to jointly create a digital imaging platform that would serve as the foundation for a new class of products that would provide higher image quality. The new reference platform would integrate the HP HDCS-2000 CMOS VGA sensor and SV`s Clarity 2.0 digital imaging ASIC and firmware library.

Says Stuart Nixdorff, SV vice president of sales, "Combined with our Clarity 2.0 platform, HP and SV can offer OEMs a competitively priced, technologically advanced, and financially flexible solution for VGA resolution imaging products."

Adds Neal Carney, manager for the imaging products business unit within HP`s components group, "We expect that the demand for digital-image-capture devices will be explosive, fueled by the desire of people to add images to their communications, the pervasiveness of the Internet, and increased bandwidth to the home. Emerging applications in biometric sensors and security/surveillance systems also could add to this increased demand."
