JANUARY 31--Securicor Information Systems (SIS; London, England; www.securicor.com/sis), a biometrics-systems integrator, and its technology partner, Visionics Corporation (www.visionics.com), announced that the Essex Police Department is conducting an extensive trial of Securicor's Facial Biometric Researcher system that automates the process of matching suspect images from CCTV and composite sketches, or e-fits, with their extensive database that contains more than 160,000 images. The Facial Biometrics Researcher is enabled by FaceIt facial-recognition software from Visionics.

Detective Sergeant Steve Jones from the Essex Police Divisional Headquarters in Southend on Sea stated, "Essex Police have been using Securicor's Video Witness for some time. I am now looking forward to working together with Securicor on this trial of its new Facial Biometrics Researcher. Biometrics is an exciting new technology, and I am hopeful that this system will prove that its time has come."
