SEPTEMBER 20--V.J. Electronix (Bohemia, NY;www.vjelectronix.com), a division of V.J. Technologies Inc. and manufacturer of x-ray inspection systems, has entered a strategic alliance with the American Competitiveness Institute (ACI) to facilitate ACI's primary goal of aiding the advancement and integration of leading technologies in electronics manufacturing and related engineering applications. Under this new alliance, V.J. Electronix will provide a VJ-1000 x-ray system to be housed in the Electronics Manufacturing Productivity Facility (EMPF) at ACI.

The VJ-1000 is a high-resolution x-ray inspection system, equipped with proprietary advanced defect-recognition (ADR) technology, NEXUS 200 analysis and measurement software, and movie software. ADR provides a quick and sophisticated image-enhancement tool that does not rely on operator subjectivity to get the best image. Since the enhancement is done automatically, the image consistently shows defects objectively, eliminating the need for manual x-ray output, detector, contrast, and brightness adjustment. NEXUS 200 provides ball-grid array analysis, wire-sweep analysis, and void measurement in die attach. V.J. Electronix digital movie software enables the operator to save live images and system data of entire inspections in video format, including voiceover of operator observations.

ACI leads a consortium of industry, university, and government participants that provides resources for the EMPF. The EMPF provides high-quality electronics systems to the US Department of Defense.
