JANUARY 2--BFi OPTiLAS (Evry, France; www.bfioptilas.avnet.com), a technical distributor of specialist products and services to the imaging and detection market, signed a pan-European agreement for the distribution and representation of the Digital Infrared Imaging (DII) product portfolio. DII is an American company that specializes in the design and manufacturing of thermal imaging camera systems for a wide range of applications for commercial, military, and public-safety markets.

DII's proprietary software allows it to utilize many different infrared sensors ranging from the cooled InSb detector to the uncooled microbolometer detector in the cameras. The versatility of the software allows for quick interface with the new, lower cost detectors soon to be available. This quick interface will provide customers lower cost, higher quality cameras.

The DI-5000 is designed to mount on vehicles or buildings. It is a lightweight, infrared, real-time thermal imaging system operating in the 8--14-μm spectral range. The system is based on uncooled microbolometer focal-plane-array technology, which offers high reliability with low total life-cycle cost.
