American Science and Engineering receives $15.6 million order
APRIL 30--American Science and Engineering Inc. (AS&E; Billerica, MA; www.as-e.com) has received an order from the US Department of Defense (DoD) for seven MobileSearch x-ray inspection systems, valued at $15.6 million. This order, which includes two-year warranty and service, was placed under the blanket purchase agreement awarded to AS&E in May 2002. The company anticipates that four of the seven systems will be accepted by the DoD in the quarter ending June 30, 2003.
Ralph Sheridan, chief executive officer and president, stated, "The DoD currently deploys AS&E inspection systems for a variety of force protection and counterterrorism applications. The combination of Z-backscatter and transmission x-ray imaging provides the most image information to an operator for successful threat detection."
The MobileSearch x-ray inspection systems provide DoD officials with means for detecting weapons, plastic explosives, illegal drugs, and other organic and inorganic contraband.
