JULY 30--Viisage Technology Inc. (Littleton, MA;www.viisage.com) has created a new business unit to improve computing and Internet security using face-recognition technology. Under the direction of Marc Hodosh, director of Biometric Business Development, Viisage will use its face-recognition technology to improve network and computer security, making e-commerce more secure by authenticating transactions via a personal computer or mobile device.

Hodosh, commenting on the appointment, said, "I am enthusiastic about driving forward a remarkable technology that consumers will find more convenient, private, and secure over their current system of confusing and arcane passwords and user names that offer little protection." Tom Colatosti, Viisage president and CEO, said, "Marc brings a unique set of skills, experience, and energy to Viisage that will enable us to become a major player in the Internet security market."

Originally developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Viisage's patented, accurate, nonintrusive, and cost-effective face-recognition technology is widely acknowledged for its speed in real-time applications, scalability for managing large image databases, and systems integration for complete customer solutions.
