APRIL 4--eTrue (Southborough, MA; www.etrue.com) has partnered with Microsoft Corp. (Redmond, WA; www.microsoft.com) to provide biometric log-on services for secure Web and network access to Microsoft .NET Enterprise Server customers. "The eTrue service has been chosen as the first biometric authentication service that were showing customers interested in using Microsoft .NET Enterprise Servers for their applications," says Frank Murphy, general manager of the Microsoft E-Commerce Solutions Group. "The eTrue service offers customers quick, flexible, and reliable deployment of secure authentication."

The eTrue service authenticates users for both Web and local network log-on through multiple biometrics, such as face and fingerprint verification, providing 100% user authentication. "By building on Microsoft's .NET Enterprise servers, eTrue is able to bring its message to a wider audience, " says David Teitelman, eTrue president and chief executive officer. "The eTrue service is completely managed by eTrue. This frees customers from administrative headaches, while their users never have to worry about lost, forgotten, or stolen Pins, passwords, or tokens. The user is the password."

Video cameras and fingerprint readers are provided at no additional charge. eTrue manages all identification registration, authentication, exceptions, administration, and upgrades, as well as a transaction log for reports and audits.

The security and reliability of biometric transactions and data storage are ensured through a hosted implementation that includes secure socket layer Internet communications, encrypted transactions and secure, redundant servers with automatic fail-over and multi-layered firewalls, which are maintained by eTrue and its hosting partner Exodus Communications Inc. (Santa Clara, CA; www.exodus.com).
