FEBRUARY 11, 2009--International designer and manufacturer of optical solutions Qioptiq (Luxembourg; www.qioptiq.com) announced today that it posted a record turnover for the year ending Dec. 31, 2008.

Sales for the group, which includes LINOS and Point Source, were approximately US$400 million -- an organic increase of more than 11% on the previous year's turnover.

Qioptiq CEO Benoit Bazire says, "We had a very strong 2008 and achieved a number of landmarks during the year. Contract wins, particularly in the defense area, were ahead of projected targets. Major contracts were entered into in the US and UK for a number of programs, including thermal vision sights. Customers include major multinational defense contractors and national ministries of defense.

"In the commercial sector," he adds, "our successful acquisition of Point Source Ltd. in March brought a much enhanced laser capability to our portfolio of products and services. We successfully established an operation in China and merged two of our US operations. In October we opened our new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Singapore, which is active in both the defense and commercial sectors."

The Finance Minister of Singapore, Tharman Shanmurgaratnam, who had attended the opening ceremony of the Singapore facility, highlighted Qioptiq during his annual budget speech last month. He noted that "Qioptiq succeeds because it keeps developing its people: locals who have grown their expertise with the firm and foreigners bringing in more."
