Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), or as many call them, "drones," were a popular subject and/or a point of contention throughout 2013. It seemed that some wanted to argue for the many practical uses UAVs could provide, while others argued against the militaristic or privacy-invading side aspects of the vehicles. In any case, in June we covered a story from National Geographic, which highlighted five civilian areas in which UAVs were being used, including hurricane hunting and 3D mapping.
