JANUARY 18--Recon/Optical Inc. (ROI; Barrington, IL; www.roi.bourns.com) has been awarded a multimillion-dollar contract by Saab Avionics to produce and deliver state-of-the-art reconnaissance cameras for Sweden's JAS-39 Gripen fighter aircraft. ROI will deliver the first camera in 2003.
Saab Avionics is under contract to FMV (Swedish Defence Materiel Administration) for the development and delivery of reconnaissance pods for the JAS-39 Gripen fighter aircraft. The initial version of the pod system will be equipped with cameras for international peace-support operations and safeguarding of territorial integrity.
Saab Avionics, a company within the Saab Group, is a supplier of avionics and electronic warfare systems on the international market and a principal supplier to the Swedish Gripen aircraft. The company's headquarters are in Stockholm, Sweden.
