Pointmaker doubles number of compatible scan rates
OCTOBER 12--To increase compatibility between the Pointmaker video marker and high-resolution video presentations, Boeckeler Instruments (Tucson, AZ; www.pointmaker.com) recently doubled the number of scan rates available in its most popular model. According to Boeckeler vice president Pat Brey, compatible computer scan rates in thePointmaker PVI-83 now include many of those established by the VideoElectronics Standards Association (VESA), Apple Computer Inc. (Macintosh),Sun Microsystems (SUN), IBM Corporation, Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI), andExtron Electronics. "In a way, it was like we had offered very good, high-performance tires, but could only mount them on the average car," says Brey. "Now, we can mount them on sports cars, which should show off the video marker in the more powerful presentations."
Some of the new scan rates include those for resolutions at 1280 x 1024, 1360 x 1024, and 1600 x 1200. The highest horizontal scan rate now offered is 106.3 kHz, an increase from 71.7 kHz.
Pointmaker video markers allow you to draw and point in color on video images--technology that has become an increasingly popular way to annotate images on large screens and remote monitors. Without this technology, Brey says, it is difficult for presenters to point at image details. "There are many applications where a laser pen or mechanical pointer simply won't do."
