• Sharp Microelectronics introduces 20.1-in. monochrome TFT-LCD

    MARCH 5--Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas (SMA; Camas, WA; www.sharpsma.com), a US-based division of Sharp Electronics Corporation, has introduced a 20.1-in. monochrome thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal display (LCD) with brightness levels and performance capabilities suitable for both diagnostic imaging and clinical applications. The TFT-LCD incorporates brightness with multiple-layer imaging that until now has been found only in more expensive 3- and 5-Mpixel modules. It also offers advancements in usability made possible by its ASV technology, including a 170° viewing angle, improved contrast and response time, and the elimination of bright pixel defects.

    The LQ201U1LW11 (monochrome) and LQ201U1LW01 (color) offer a superwide viewing angle, 1000:1 contrast ratio (LQ201U1LW11), and 8 bits/subpixel of gray scale for superior image sharpness. Graphics and text can be displayed on an 8-bit mode, and response time measures 25 ms or less, with improved color performance. The displays incorporate ASV technology, which completely eliminates bright pixel defects, and a 25-ms response rate. The displays are suitable to quality-sensitive diagnostic imaging applications.

    The LQ201U1LW11 and LQ201U1LW01 TFT-LCDs are available now in sample quantities and are priced at approximately $1800.
