JUNE 13--Actuality Systems Inc. (Burlington, MA; www.actuality-systems.com), which develops 3-D visualization systems, has received $1.5 million in series B funding from Navigator Technology Ventures (Cambridge, MA) and a group of private investors. Navigator, a new investor in Actuality, specializes in funding support for early-stage companies developing technologies in electronics, biotech, IT and wireless.
Actuality plans to use the money for marketing and production of the new Perspecta platform to key markets including biotech, drug design, security, and medical imaging.
Actuality recently announced that it would begin initial production of its Perspecta spatial 3-D platform for biotechnology, drug discovery, and proteomics applications. The display consists of a globe mounted on a base that contains a digital projector, special lenses and mirrors, and a flat screen within the globe that spins at several hundred revolutions per minute. A two-dimensional image is displayed on the flat screen, and, as it spins, the image becomes three-dimensional. The system is capable of rendering an image of 100 million voxels, or volumetric pixels.

"It's a real endorsement of our efforts and our technology, especially considering the difficult economic environment."
The Perspecta platform is priced from $40,000 per station, including the Perspecta operating system and Perspecta display.
