June 25--Adept Technology Inc. (San Jose, CA; www.adept.com) has introduced the second in its family of distributed motion and vision controllers, the Adept SmartController CX. This controller supports AdeptVision's AVI and includes a faster processor that accommodates demanding motion and vision applications. It also incorporates additional serial communication ports for performance, as well as standard Fast Ethernet, DeviceNet, and Adept's FireWire-based SmartServo network interfaces. The built-in distributed network control architecture uses Adept's SmartAmp technology to achieve scalability, reduced form factor, and decreased cabling of up to 70%.

Joe Campbell, vice president of marketing for Adept Technology, says, "The SmartController CX delivers the industry-proven scalability of our FireWire-based distributed control architecture with full support for advanced vision and motion applications."

The SmartController CX with the AdeptVision's AVI option allows users to program complex applications where part orientation and recognition are required, which allows for shorter cycle times and application performance otherwise not obtainable. The faster processor permits the design of applications that require more CPU power while the additional communication ports enable more devices to be controlled and interfaced by a single controller.
