The EMVA has issued its call for papers for the Young Professional Award, which honors the innovative work of a student or young professional in the field of machine vision or image processing each year.

EMVA welcomes new members, opens registration for Business Conference
The award—which will be given out at the 13th EMVA Business Conference 2015 in Athens, Greece—hopes to advance machine vision and encourage students to focus on challenges in the field of machine vision and apply the latest research results and findings in computer vision to the practical needs of the expanding machine vision industry. The criteria of the work presented for award consideration include:
- Outstanding innovative work in the field of vision technology with industrial relevance.
- Work must have been completed within the last 12 months by a student or young research during their education at a European university or research institute (student may have entered the professional field after the completion of the work.)
Last year, the award was given to Jakob Engel, a (then) 27-year old PhD Student in the Computer Vision Group at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Engel received the award for his novel approach to real-time visual odometry for a monocular camera. He developed a semi-dense method for estimating the 3D movement of a monocular camera from recorded video while simultaneously estimating the 3D structure of a given environment, according to the EMVA.
In order to apply for the award, applicants must write (in English) a short abstract of two pages that describe the work, as well as provide a short author bio. This must be sent to EMVA Secretariat Natalia Soto by April 17, 2015. Winners receive a free conference pass for the EMVA Business Conference, as well as coverage of all travel costs.
