X-Class CMOS image sensors enable new functionality for industrial camera design

ON Semiconductor’s new X-Class CMOS image sensor platform allows a single camera design to support not only multiple product resolutions but also different pixel functionality, according to the company.

ON Semiconductor’s new X-Class CMOS image sensor platform allows a single camera design to support not only multiple product resolutions but also different pixel functionality, according to the company.

The first devices are the XGS12000, a 12.6 MPixel global shutter CMOS image sensor that supports up to 90 fps readout at full resolution, as well as the XGS8000, an 8.8 MPixel global shutter CMOS image sensor that supports up to 120 fps readout at full resolution. These sensors are based on the first pixel architecture to be deployed in this platform – an advanced 3.2 µm global shutter CMOS pixel that, according to ON Semiconductor, offers high image uniformity and low noise. Additional devices based on the 3.2 µm XGS pixel, as well as products based on other pixel architectures are planned for the X-Class family in the future.
