How is it possible that we're entering the third week of January already? As the calendar turns to a new year, many of us embrace it as a fresh start, a chance to set new goals, explore new ideas, and approach challenges with renewed energy. For me, stepping into the role of chief editor at Vision Systems Design feels much the same: a fresh chapter filled with opportunity, curiosity, and a deep commitment to the evolving field of industrial vision systems.
I'm Sharon Spielman, and although I am new to VSD, I have dipped my toe in the vision systems waters as technical editor for our sister publication Machine Design. I’m excited to join this vibrant community at a time when the industry is poised for remarkable growth. According to Interact Analysis, the global machine vision market is expecting to grow over the next 3-4 years, with a projected CAGR of 8.3% in 2027, 8.5% in 2028, and 9.8% in 2029. And, by 2029, Interact Analysis predicted that the machine vision market should be worth around $7.7 billion.
Starting this new role just last week, I'm deep in the exciting, sometimes dizzying, process of learning the ins and outs, figuring out who does what, how the pieces fit together, and where I can add the most value. It's fair to say my head has been spinning with all the new information and possibilities. That said, I'm confident I'll find my footing soon and begin to navigate this landscape with clarity and purpose. This phase of rapid learning only fuels my enthusiasm to contribute meaningfully to our industry and to you, the professionals who are leading innovation every day.
My plan is to approach this role with a clear commitment: to bring fresh perspectives and dedicated insights to help bridge emerging technology with practical application. My goal is to serve as a trusted source of knowledge, fostering meaningful conversations that drive innovation and business success.
