3D maps of heartbeats

Electrical impulses that cause the heart to contract during heartbeats must follow a precise pathway to the through the heart, so when these impulses are interrupted, it can sometimes cause an abnormal heart beat. This can be treated with cardiac ablation procedures, according to the Mayo Clinic, in which a catheter is threaded through a vein to the heart to listen to electrical activity to find the source of heartbeat irregularities. With the Rhythmia Mapping System, the activity of the heart is quickly mapped by having a 64-electrode catheter track the heart’s shape and signals as it beats, and then having the system’s software translate that data into the 3D map of the heart.
