Turn your living room into a virtual reality holodeck

Aug. 6, 2013

A system called “Atlas” enables video game players to create a “walk-around” virtual reality system in their own home. Atlas software, which is currently being Kickstarted by Protagonist, is a patent-pending system that uses optical tracking fused with accelerometers and gyros that locate a person in a room. Markers are stuck to the ground to track movements as you play along with Oculus Rift VR goggles, an optional Razer Hydra-equipped gun or sword, and the Atlas chest mount for your iPhone, from which you run the Atlas app. When the player moves around the room, it translates real world movement into virtual reality.
